Ashley Ek

Ashley Ek, PA-C, always knew she wanted to work in healthcare, and cardiology has a special place in her heart.

After growing up in Grand Rapids, she attended Central Michigan University to complete her undergraduate degree. She earned bachelor degrees in health fitness and rehabilitative programs. After completing her undergrad, Ashley worked as a medical assistant at a cardiology office for two and a half years. While working full time as a medical assistant, along with working at a restaurant and daycare, Ashley took night classes in preparation to apply for the physician assistant program at the University of Findlay in Ohio. With the graduate program, she knew she’d be able to provide more for her patients. She is BLS and ACLS certified.

After completing her physician assistant program, Ashley wanted to move back to Grand Rapids to serve her hometown community. In the summer of 2018, Ashley was given the wonderful opportunity to join Grand Rapids Cardiology, now part of the ACV Centers practice. Ashley’s grandparents were both patients of Dr. VanderLaan’s and thought highly of him. She values the knowledge she has learned from Dr. VanderLaan and looks forward to continuing to learn from the providers at ACV Centers. She is excited to join a well-established group that is expanding nationwide to Lansing and Las Vegas.

Ashley enjoys getting to know her patients. “It is rewarding to be able to put together the puzzle pieces of patients symptoms to not only come up with a diagnosis, but hopefully make an impact on their life through education, lifestyle changes and medication management,” she says. “It is amazing when patients come in for their follow-up visit and tell me that after years of being limited by their symptoms, they are finally able to play with their grandchildren or take their dream vacation with their spouse.

“The prevention aspect of Cardiology to help prevent future cardiac events is amazing.”

In her free time, Ashley loves exploring the beautiful state of Michigan and adventuring both the United States and the world. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, snowboarding and all types of card and board games.
